Edit: Expansions are only playable after level 80. But you can get a mount (raptor) earlier if you don't care about story spoilers and have a helpful level 80 friend to carry you. Either expansion will unlock masteries (including Core Tyria) for you when you reach level 80 and do the first expansion story step.
looks like I got all the inventory items, like bags, dye pack, harvesting tools, but that is it, but no gear or level 80 boost after finishing the introduction instance.
Then you must start the Heart of Thorns story and play the prologue and the first mission to get the basic glider, and you need a level 80 character to do that. Once unlocked, the mastery and related skins will be account-wide, so you can do that with a different character, then go back to the low level character to use it.
Yes, you might be able to play with your friends but you are no real help for them. More of the opposite (at least in harder content). So if you get the booster refunded (I doubt it): For the love of [insert favorite human god here] stay away from the level 80 booster and learn the game first.
It's advisable to have at least one lvl 80 levelled the normal way because it helps learnt the game better. A lot of people boost, go straight to level 80 areas in HoT or PoF and then find themselves unable to do anything having skipped so much of end areas of the core maps (Orr) and Living World Season 2

Both can be easily learned at 80 as well if one just takes time to do so once lvl80. Imo that is more time effective compared to using it on a class that can burn through the low end content anyway with only 1/4th of a full build. On top of that many just end up playing staff mesmer/ele to level anyway. not much of a learning curve to those setups.
On the surface the level 80 boost may appear to be a fun way for new players to get into the game and start having fun immediately and it is for a…

For your first character, play to level 80, then buy a DLC package. Even if the DLC package has a level boost, use that level boost on your second character. As you are leveling up to 80, check out the gem store. If you think you need more bank or inventory slots pay for the quality of life features.
1. It is entirely up to you how you progress. You won't earn any less experience staying in the lower level zones- in fact, you could go clear the other race's starting zones and earn exp at the exact same pace. Fully exploring the map has its advantages- you can earn a bunch of exp, transmutation charges for customizing your appearance or
I bought the full game about four days ago and haven't been able to use my boost due to them being "temporarily disabled." I understand a short inconvenience for a couple days but this is getting really annoying. You need to be level 80 to get your first mount which would make progression 10x faster and more enjoyable for me.
