Noisy thumping first gear from neutral to 1st mine makes a fairly loud and jolting sound but has done so for about 6 months, I did reset the auto and that doesn't take the 1st gear clunking away, ill be swapping my auto for a 508 manual in Feb when my insurance runs out as I cant afford those kind of repair prices, only got the car 10 months ago for 6k so spending upto 3k on repairs is a no go

For information, there are rumours over on the French Planete Citroen forums that the EAT gearbox will possibly replace the ETG gearbox completely as the new BlueHdi and Euro 6 engines are so efficient. The 115 diesel engine is still available (Euro 5) but the engine ranges are now becoming very complex.

Citroen C4 hdr automatic - unable to select gear on automatic. I have problems with my car after stopping it and getting out when I get back in the engine will start however no gears can be selected if I leave for about 10 minutes or so when I try it again I can select the gears alright the car has been back to the main dealer however they say that they can not find any fault this has been Hi Gintoxic. what was the final outcome of the repair ? My C4 Grand Picasso displayed "gearbox faulty" last week setting the car into NEUTRAL as it dropped out of gear. Intermittently it would drive (so logic said that something else was causing the box not to drive not the box itself). I noticed that the fluid is leaking probably from the top of the reservoir, from around the cap, and its not great amount, it was only a little bit of fluid on the engine shield and that was it. At Citroen I been told that it was about a cap of fluid that leaked, so they said that's nothing. Mileage on the car is about 38000, 1.6HDi EGS, 2008 reg.

I have recently replaced the high pressure hose that feeds the EGS gearbox actuator fluid from the reservoir as it was leaking on my 2008 C4 Grand Picasso 2.0 HDI and previously wouldn't select gear at all. This was definitely the fault as I could see the source of the leak and the reservoir was pretty much empty.

I have a 3.5yr old Grand C4 Picasso 1.6HDi VTR+ and I got the same problem morning - 'Gearbox Fault' error message and Service alert light. I was driving smoothly and suddenly the gear shifted on its own from A4 to Neutral! I have now parked by the roadside and I have called my independent Citroen speacialist. .
